Yosemite Valley

This trip was special for myself because I’ve never been to Yosemite Valley, even though we’ve been living in California our whole lives until China. It’s only 5 hour drive from where we were living and so we made plans for the trip with my mother-in-law and Skyler’s Grandpa, Robert, who knew all the in’s and out’s of Yosemite which made the trip super smooth. It was also my mother-in-laws first trip out,  which made the trip super grand for and me.

We came at a time when all the snow was melting from the recent snow storms and the waterfalls that were only existent during this time. With the right conditions we were able to catch the famous firefall. This firefall hasn’t seen the right conditions in 4 years, due to drought conditions and cloudy weather which blocks the sun. We were so incredibly lucky and not expecting to be able to catch the sight, but lo and behold we were!

Some sights of the valley and bouldering below. I’ve only ever climbed in pine areas at the Tramway near Palm Springs, so this is the second pine area we’ve gotten to experience and it was an absolute treat! Loved the boulders here and it was clear of climbers!

Something that was special to see while we were there was the Native’s Musuem, which told the story of how Yosemite earned its name. It translates from 2 words that local natives near the valley would call them and translates loosely to – “some of them kill.” The original natives were called themselves Ahwahnee which translates into “a big gaping mouth”.
